Front Row OS X Guide

Front Row is newly included with Mac OS X Leopard and can ben used without the Apple remote. Before, Apple would include it with newly bought computers but also included a remote which was the only way to control Front Row. The new 10.5 Leopard Front Row can be controlled with the keyboard

Front Row is the application to use when you want to view media. It lets you view your DVDs, Videos, Pictures and Music. It works in conjunction with iPhoto, QuickTime and iTunes to access your media libraries.

The new Leopard Front Row features new TV shows, music, Podcasts.

Using Front Row

The main categories when you enter are:

  • Movies: In this section, you have the choice between Apple top movies, theatrical trailers or movies folder. Apple top movies is Apple's top 10 choice of movie trailers. Theatrical trailers is where all the movie trailers are. Movies folder is where you find your own video files. This folder is located in your home folder. Store all video files in there to easily use them in all iApps such as this one or iMovie and iDVD.
  • TV Shows: TV Shows includes trailers for shows available on the iTunes marketplace. To view one, simply select it from the list.
  • Music: The Music section give you access to Apple's top songs and top music videos. The bottom section gives you total access to your iTunes library. You can select: Shuffle, Music Videos, Playlists, Artists, Albums, Songs (All songs), genres, composers and Audiobooks. With all those options, Front Row let's you choose which song you want to hear with ease.
  • Podcasts: This browses thru all your subscribed podcasts in iTunes. To subscribe to a podcast, visit iTunes or a publisher's website.
  • Photos: The Photos section of Front Row gives you access to your iPhoto library. You can choose between Photos (All), Last 12 months, Last import or choose one of your own iPhoto Albums.
  • Settings:There are two settings you can change in Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard Front Row; Screensaver and Sound effects. You can turn both on or off by pressing Enter on your keyboard.
  • Sources: Browses thru the different media sources in your network. If you have no other computers in your network, disregard this option.
